Important for them to make money to foster stable future model. I have no problem with advertising as long it is a) not too "in my face" b) easy and quick skipable c) avoidable through small, very affordable annual subscription like €1/ month or so.

Ronan,

Interesting perspective, as over time the tweets give context to a users conversations over time.
This is very valuable information.

Chris,

I agree there will always be naysayers, and in my experience when you have naysayers then you are on the right path ;-)

It is interesting to think of the impact to Google, epecially when you consider Ads on Facebook and Ads on Linkedin.com to name a few. These parties are taking market share from Google.

Mark.

Hi Mark,
I agree, it's a good step. It will be interesting to see if they can actually make money off ads properly without turning users off. There are quite a few naysayers though. But remember back when Google launched Adwords a lot of people scoffed at the idea and didn't see the impact the ads would have on search and advertising.
And thinking of that, I wonder what impact Twitter Ads would have on advertising if it became as big a success as Google's Adwords offering?

We lack ordinary people, farmers and business people in the cabinet. How can a group of bureaucrats know what is in the economic interests of the country if they have never taken charge of their own business? These people are setting a course without any previous experience. They are, after all, career bureaucrats.

As an economic entity, we need to encourage more young people to create their own businesses and to use that experience to help the country move forward. It is a great shame to see so many young people and ideas being wasted on the dole queues around the country. Wouldn't it be fantastic if a small business was paid a sum of money by the state to take on some of these young people and show them the ropes and make them more employable. We lack the brains at the top to push an initiative like this forward.

Alex,

During the presentation I did not talk specifically about which metrics to use and which are best, etc. I did make the point that your metrics need to be tied to your business and marketing objectives. I also made a further point, from a financial perspective, if you don’t measure your effort then your effort goes from been an “investment” to becoming “expense”.

Does this answer your question or were you looking for an answer on “Which metrics are best for Twitter or Facebook, or Blogs?”

I hope the training session goes well, and wish I was there.

Nice video, btw - I've been looking for a user-friendly intro to SW for ~4 years. But does searching/finding music files really capture the entire potential of the SW? Any other material out there for non-techies (like me)?

Entrepreneurs are born, not made.

My evidence for this is that there are some people who can never become entrepreneurs, nomatter the amount of encouragement you give them. They just don't have the spark within them.

And there are no doubt hundreds of people who are born entrepreneurs but who never have to exercise the 'gene'. They can excel in other careers too but there are circumstances which will force the use of the quality.

I think the entrepreneur 'gene' is more common than we think. But there is a function of environment to consider. My father was a serial entrepreneur but I never considered running my own business until I was forced to. I went for the education-academia-degree-job approach. In retrospect I'd have been happier following in my fathers footsteps.
